Scope of Practice
Le Moyne College Counseling Center offers a flexible integrated model in order to meet students where they are at and offer the most appropriate level of care. Like most college counseling centers, we focus on short-term intervention modeled around the college calendar. We provide mental health services within the limits of our expertise to help students with a wide range of issues. Students presenting with a concern that requires services not available at the Counseling Center, will be referred to off campus resources for more specialized treatment during a single session appointment.
Explore the Services We Provide
- Crisis Intervention: Crisis intervention is provided for eligible students who are in serious or immediate emotional distress. Counseling Center staff are available for same-day crisis appointments during Counseling Center business hours. Staff and faculty are expected to call and provide any relevant referral information before walking a student down to the Counseling Center. For after hours crisis intervention protocol, please see the section entitled After Hours.
- Short term counseling: Individual sessions are available to address issues such as but not limited to: anxiety, depression, changes in mood, sleep and appetite, suicidal thoughts/self harm, trauma, relationships, family dynamics, loss and grief, drug/alcohol misuse, identity, self esteem, college related transition and academic concerns. Group sessions may be offered periodically based on demands for certain topics and counselor availability.
- Consultation: Students, faculty, staff, and parents are welcome to consult with the Counseling Center to share concerns about a student. While these consultations are handled with discretion, they are not legally confidential, as legal privilege applies only to individuals receiving counseling services. The Counseling Center makes every effort to protect privacy and will discuss the limits of confidentiality with all parties during consultation.
